Guided Wave Testing (GWT)

Guided Wave Testing (GWT) is a kind of NDT for pipelines. This test method provides long-range quick corrosion screening and mapping for in-service pipes, and is the most cost-effective solution for pipe integrity management.

GWT was developed to be practical for complex applications which is suitable for building facilities and infrastructures, including insulated, wrapped, coated, wall / slab-penetrating, road crossings, buried lines, subsea lines, and complex geometries.

By injecting mechanical stress waves to the pipe that are guided along the wall of the pipe, it can travel for long distances (tens of meters in one single measurement point), which can give close to 100% inspection coverage rapidly.

Pipe Integrity Inspection

  • Flaws
  • Discontinuities
  • Corrosion
  • Welds
  • External / internal metal loss
  • Variation in pipe total cross-section area / wall thickness
  • Change in material properties
  • Corrosion under supports / at wall penetration

Benefits

  • Prevent unexpected pipe burst / emergency shutdowns
  • Prevent catastrophic damage / accidents
  • Reduce unnecessary over-haul and maintenance costs
  • Reduce machine outage downtime
  • Reduce business loss
  • Reduce reputation risk
  • Reduce cost for excavation and coat / insulation removal
  • No interruption to operation
  • Long-range coverage, increase inspection efficiency
  • 360° pipe circumference screening coverage (C-Scan)
